NEWS & EVENTS: AUGUST 2009
FRIENDS & FAMILY GATHERED AT GARY'S, 8. 29.09

Our first wine tasting on August 29 was attended by about 40 new Friend's and Family at Gary's home in Santa Rosa. Guests were able to sip the 2007 Chardonnay and get a preview taste of the recently bottled 2007 Merlot as they visited with our winemaker Bruce Regalia and Family members. Everyone who stopped by received one of our new recycled plastic wine bags and had an opportunity to get a poster signed by Bruce and Lillian Kimmel.

A BIG hit was the drawing for the hand painted 1.5 Liter bottle of 2007 Merlot done by Lillian. The lucky winner of the bottle was Dave Kosmala. Based on the response to this special bottle, future events will probably include one of "Lillian's" bottles. Along with the fun of meeting new Friends and enjoying the wine, many who attended took advantage of the chance to purchase wine, especially with the pre-release price for the 2007 Merlot.

The Family was very pleased with the response to our first Kimmel Vineyards event. Thank you to all who attended. Keep an eye out for the next get together and mark your calendar.

DINING OUT WITH KIMMEL VINEYARDS

Kimmel Vineyards is very pleased to now have our wine served in A.R. Valentien located at The Lodge at Torrey Pines, San Diego's only Five Diamond Resort. The Lodge's premier restaurant takes its name from a talented early-1900's California artist. A.R. Valentien features fresh regional cuisine served in an elegant timbered room overlooking the 18th hole of the Torrey Pines Golf Course, home to the 2008 U.S. Open Golf Championship. The wine list showcases only California wines.

Yves LogoWe are also pleased to have Yves' Restaurant and Wine Bar in Anahiem, California, serve our wine. Yves' was one of the first restaurants to place our wine on their list. The Bistro has received many awards and is considered one of Orange County's top (ZAGAT rated) dining and wine experiences. The restaurant serves a menu of Italian and French dishes with service second to none under the watchful eye of owner Yves Masquefa. Stop in and say hi to one of our first Friends. You will not be disappointed.

IN THE VINEYARD...

Summer in the vineyard is a very busy time but it does have its rewards! The last few weeks have been really been FUN. The 2007 Merlot was bottled on July 15 with new capsules that we received from Spain. Both the 2008 Chardonnay and 2007 Merlot will have our Kimmel mark on the top of the bottle matching the color of the label and varietal. Our family has gathered on numerous occasions to taste the Merlot while still in the barrel and we can report that this is a wine to place at the head of your Thanksgiving table! As impatient as some of you are to get to taste it, we are as equally impatient to get it into your hands. Look for its release in late fall.
Family members gathered recently to remove extraneous suckers from the newly planted Sauv Blanc, allowing for more even, focused vine growth.

The 4th of July weekend found many of the family together on the Ranch for work and relaxation. Even though it was warm, Gary got everyone together to "sucker" the new Sauvignon Blanc graftings. It took about 40 minutes for seven of us (along with three family dogs) to remove the unwanted shoots to help the new Sauvignon Blanc buds grow. We will not be picking fruit until next year but will release our Kimmel Vineyards Sauvignon Blanc in the Spring of 2011.
